Prerequisites:

Obtain a copy of the merit badge pamphlet. Read it.  Bring it to Winter Camp with you.

 Complete Requirement 2-a. Prepare to present at camp.
 Start requirement 3-b & requirement 5 at the soonest. Report progress at camp.
 Choose item a, b, or c of requirement 6 & prepare to present at camp.

Work on Requirements 3-c and 4-b before camp:

Requirement 3-c: Research your family's history. Find out how various events and situations in American history affected your family. Share what you find with your counselor. Tell why your family came to America.

Requirement 4-b: Research an event of historical importance that took place in or near your area. If possible, visit the place. Tell your counselor about the event and how it affected local history. Describe how the area looked then and what it now looks like.
